"La Promenade de Longchamps" or The Longchamp Promenade" is a design by renown Hermès artist, Philippe Ledoux. The design was first issued in 1965. The design was inspired by the social scene that occurred each summer at the Longchamp Racecourse. The horse races at Longchamp marked the end of the Parisian social season and it was the place to see and be seen and also to show off the latest summer fashions. The design depicts numerous men on horseback and men and women in their barouche carriages, all dressed in the latest mid-19th century fashions, on their way to attend the races at Longchamp. This most popular scarf has been reissued numerous times. This scarf is a circa 1988 reissue.
The colorway is comprised of a pink and gold border, a white and light sage greens background with design details rendered in greys, taupes, emerald greens, light and dark golds, browns and blues.
This nearly 30 year old scarf is in excellent, lightly used and well cared for condition There are miinimal runs or snags. The hems/edgings are intact, tight and round with plumpness. The fabric/care label is attached. There is some tiny, discreet, faint spot that is barely discernible due to storage otherwise this scarf is pristine. The scarf measures 35.25" x 35" (89.5cm x 88.9cm).
This scarf is one of the most iconic designs ever issued by Hermès. No Hermès scarf collection is complete without a "La Promenade de Longchamps" in the mix. Don't miss out on this very fine specimen.
